"Today in Precalculus I taught students to convert complex numbers from rectangular form to polar form. The lesson was terrible, and I have a few ideas about how to improve it.
But aside from that... Why do we teach this anyway? I have half an answer, and it's not that motivating for me as a teacher, let alone for my students.
So I'm wondering what you think. Why teach this skill? What's the bigger picture? What are we building toward that makes this necessary?
Thanks in advance for your feedback! I'll post my own $0.01 (that's "my half-two-cents") in about 24 hours."--@mjfenton
